Battery Heating and Air Conditioning Systems: these systems use absorbed glass mat designs or gel type electrolytes to power electrical driven air conditioning systems. Heat is usually provided by a separate fuel operated heater. These units do not consume any fuel directly, do not emit noise or emissions, and are heavy (300-500 lbs.). Some units allow for shore-power hook ups. When batteries are the sole power source, inverters change the 12-volt direct current to 110-volt or 120-volt alternating current. NOTE: Battery systems may require additional batteries and an upgraded alternator. You should consult with the company to determine the number of additional batteries, alternator needs, and their costs. These systems can also take 6-8 hours to install which could cost approximately $560, and maintenance costs have been assessed at about $200 per year.
