Electric Vehicle Charging Stations
Several manufacturers are producing or plan to produce high-performance electric vehicles, including passenger cars, minivans, sport utility vehicles, pickup trucks and buses. Electric vehicles use a battery or other energy storage device to store electricity that powers a motor. Their batteries must be recharged by an energy source located outside the vehicle. Plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV) can run solely on stored energy or run under engine power. Like an electric vehicle, the PHEV’s battery can be recharged by an energy source located outside the vehicle.
Charging stations comprise the infrastructure needed to allow consumers to charge their electric vehicles or PHEVs. The charging stations can be placed in homes or in public places such as office buildings, parking garages, shopping centers and hotels. According to the Department of Energy, there are electric charging stations located in 17 states.
